Admissions

Admissions

The McIntire School of Commerce seeks to admit a class of well-rounded individuals who bring to the program exceptional intellectual capabilities, diverse professional experiences, and a passion for life-long learning.

Admission Criteria

Admitted students are academically competitive; have successfully held positions of professional responsibility related to the management of IT; and demonstrate qualities of character such as motivation, maturity, tenacity, integrity, ability to work with others, self-reliance, and leadership. Factors such as diversity of perspective and functional expertise outside of IT may also be considered.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered for admission to the M.S. in the Management of IT Program, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they have met the following minimum requirements:

  • Have a conferred bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. The M.S. in MIT Program accepts students with a wide range of undergraduate majors.
  • Have a minimum of two years of professional work experience (post bachelor’s degree) that includes significant managerial or technical involvement with IT.
  • Submit official GMAT scores or received a GMAT waiver from our Admissions Committee.
  • Demonstrate strong oral and written English language skills. Non-native English speakers need to submit official TOEFL or IELTS scores. To be competitive for admission, we recommend a minimum TOEFL score of 620 (paper), 270 (computer), or 7 on the IELTS.

GMAT Waiver

Prospective students with at least eight years of full-time professional, postbaccalaureate work experience and solid academic credentials may request a waiver of the GMAT requirement. To apply for a GMAT waiver, please submit a copy of your resume and transcripts for each college or university attended to the McIntire Graduate Admissions Office.

We encourage you to seek a GMAT waiver early in the admissions process. Unofficial transcripts may be used for the purpose of the waiver review. Typically, candidates are notified by email of the waiver decision within two weeks of receipt of the resume and transcripts.
