Mission of the McIntire School of Commerce
The McIntire School of Commerce is a professional school engaged in the creation and dissemination of knowledge that significantly influences the ideas and actions of students, scholars, and business leaders. The McIntire School aspires to be the best and most innovative undergraduate business program in the world and to offer high-quality, innovative specialized master's degree programs. Two important elements of achieving program innovation are integrated and action-oriented learning and exploiting the strengths of traditional and virtual faculty.

Accounting Mission Statement
The mission of the Accounting Area is to create and disseminate knowledge of the accounting discipline within the mission of the McIntire School of Commerce. In the context of the Accounting Area, this means:
- Expanding and creating knowledge through scholarship of theoretical and practical impact
- Communicating knowledge of the accounting discipline through teaching undergraduate and graduate students and interacting with the external business and policy-making communities
- Encouraging ethical practice of accounting
- Serving the business, financial, governmental, and professional communities
- Providing a global perspective of accounting in society that explores diverse viewpoints
- Providing an accounting educational foundation for students interested in professional certification
