UVa's SSN InitiativeThe Social Security Number Remediation Initiative for UVa mandates the securing and remediation of SSN's throughout UVa computer systems. All faculty and staff are being asked to execute a search for files and documents that contain social security data. To assist in this effort, ITC has provided a simple-to-use software program, Identity Finder that very quickly and unobtrusively scans computers, network drives, flash drives, databases, etc. for such files. Identity Finder SoftwareIdentity Finder software can be used to scan computer hard drives and other electronic storage media for SSN and credit card data. The University has purchased a bulk license for this product, providing free copies for University faculty and staff. McIntire PC users will have this software automatically deployed onto their desktops by the tech team. If you do not find the software in the Programs menu of your PC (Under Identity Finder), you can download it yourself from ITC (login required). Mac Users should read ITC's options for macs document and contact the help desk for assistance if needed. All users should read the Scanning Instructions before doing their scans. More Information: |
